What to see in Municipality of Zas Hall in 24 hours

A single day may seem like a short time to get to know everything that Zas has to offer, but it is enough to get an unforgettable impression of a town full of nature, history and tradition. Between hundred-year-old oak trees, stately mansions, river routes and archaeological sites, each step allows you to immerse yourself in the essence of the inland Costa da Morte. In this 24-hour itinerary we combine heritage, leisure and local gastronomy, offering you a full day that goes from the charms of the oldest palace in Galicia to the vestiges of the Roman world in Brandomil. Get ready to discover a territory that surprises both for its past and for the hospitality of its people and the beauty of its landscape.

What to see in Zas in the morning

If you only have one day to discover our municipality, we advise you to start the day by visiting the first pazo in Galicia, Torres do Allo, which will welcome you with a spectacular avenue of centenary oaks. Torres do Allo is not only a palace, there you can enjoy a natural environment full of history with its Renaissance church, its granaries and its leafy chestnut grove.

Nearby, in the urban center of Baio, you will find a natural space, its oak tree, from which to start a short walk, bordering the Rio Grande, until you reach the recreational area of Pedra Vixía. Along the way, you will see ancient mills, a rich ethnographic heritage in a good state of preservation. Unfortunately, this is not the state in which you will find the Dolmen of Pedra Vixía, stone remains of the megalithic era located a short distance from this leisure space, following the left bank of the river.

Baio - Pedra Vixía

Back in the center of Baio, and at the end of the morning, if you wish, you can do your shopping in one of the many shops in the town. Then, we advise you to take a break from your shopping in any hostelry and enjoy its good and welcoming atmosphere. When it’s time for lunch, you can choose between a restaurant in Baio, or if you prefer, move to the urban center of Zas, from where the afternoon tour will start. Whatever your choice, we assure you that you will taste the best gastronomic products of the area.

What to see in Zas in the morning and afternoon

Our proposal will be to direct you to a revitalizing space after lunch, to the oak tree of Zas, the stage, every first Saturday of August, of one of the most important folk music festivals in Galicia. To do this, you will pass in front of the town hall and the parish church of the sixteenth century. After taking a breath of fresh air in the middle of this natural environment of great landscape value, it is time to head to the south of the municipality, towards the historic parish of Brandomil, with archaeological sites of relevance. There, you can climb on the back of its bridge over the Xallas river and travel, with imagination, to the time of the Romans. From those years are the remains (altars, columns, corbels) that you can observe walking around the place, as they have been reused by the neighbors for their private constructions.

Picnic area Brandomil

If you want it and time is not pressing, there is a designed route that continues along the Muxía road to get to know one of the great megalithic monuments of Galicia, the Dolmen of Arca da Piosa, first visiting Pozo Limideiro, an ancient gold mine, probably from the Roman era.

When night falls and you need to gather strength and rest, in the municipality of Zas you will find hostels, rural houses and pensions where you can stay.
