The Pico de Meda, with its 566 meters, is the most important height in the town of Zas. It is located in the northeastern part of the municipality and from its top, you can glimpse the Atlantic, as well as enjoying a beautiful view of the Soneira Valley, which is part of what is called Costa da Morte, even though it is a landlocked municipality. It is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful Atlantic landscapes.
It opens up good views of the region, its valleys and its crops. Animals in the wild can be seen, equines and bovids, birds of prey and small mammals (rabbits, foxes). In this area there is a wind power station that significantly alters the landscape.
The beauty of the municipality of Zas can be observed from the peak of Pico de Meda, where the Rio Grande is born, which drains almost the entire municipality, until it flows into the estuary of Camariñas.
The other river basin is the Xallas River, which retains its waters in the waterfall for electricity production, in one of the largest reservoirs in Galicia.
Access: From Zas, take the local road to A Gándara. Cross the bridge of A Represa, advance until you pass the centre of Carreira, leaving behind A Mosqueira and turn right towards Rabuñoso. Once you have crossed it, you have to turn left ascending towards Pico de Meda
